Nacropolis the winner of DSC Prize for South Asian Literature in 2013 is all about drugs and the place as suggested in the title itself. But there is a lot more to read and understand in this book. This book is not just about Bombay but about how the lives in Bombay were moving towards death with the increasing demand of opium. Jeet is very well versed with this term as he himself went through the struggle of being a drug addict for 20 years and was finally out of it 2002. This book is the secret of his past.

This is a story of Old Bombay-the slums, the poor and the gutters. On Shuklaji Street was the Opium owned Rashid where Dimpal was a eunuch and Mr. Lee who was a former Chinese officer. Readers get to know the three different stories of the three characters of how they entered into the opium world and how they balanced their lives.  This story has a mix of love, life, sex, glamour, power, money and God. This novel is broken well into parts to understand each and every part of the life of a drug addict. DImpal is a beautiful hijra and works for Rashid preparing opium.

Throughout the novel readers will get to know that there are many characters that have fled from home or were compelled to leave when returned after years found that things were no more the same and would never ever be for them. Life is not easy and once indulged in drugs its gets more difficult to make it normal. To know more in depth pre-order the book now from Infibeam.
