Ever Since the speech 'Kiss The World' delivered at IIM, Banglore went viral, Subroto Bagchi has gained much popularity across the globe. His books are written with utter simplicity but yet provides some of the best lessons for becoming successful in business. The Elephant Catchers: Key Lessons for Breakthrough Growth is an upcoming book that will guide the young professionals and businessmen in achieving greater success in their business.
Though Bagchi's books have settled into self-help arena at book stores, he says that he is a business writer and that his books are not self help, “My books are management books. Not self help. “Go Kiss The World” tugged at people's hearts. It was written for B town India, which has come to play a mainstream role in the country today.”
The latest book that is said to be releasing by mid August by Bagchi consists of important lessons that the executives and organizations need to learn to grow continuously. There are times when even after a great start a business or an organization falters in achieving great heights. In the book Elephant Catchers, Bagchi concentrates on this issue and through his on-the-ground learning and experience explore into this situation and gives solutions on what to do next and how to climb to the next level of success. ‘Unlike an operation to catch rabbits, trapping an elephant calls for expertise over enthusiasm. Those who hunt rabbits are rarely able to rope in elephants.’
However, his books are not all plainly preachy but makes for an interesting read as he includes engaging anecdotes from his experience as a co-founder and Chairman of Mindtree Ltd. The Elephant Catchers deals with several issues that you need to ponder over as a business man or organization. The book raises questions and solutions for the issues such as:
- Is your organization’s infrastructure designed to evolve and ultimately mimic the simultaneity of a living organism?
- Are you constantly nurturing and renewing your brand identity or letting it stagnate and decay?
- Does your sales force have as many hunters as it has farmers? Or is it dominated by a grizzly who just waits for the salmon to land in its mouth?
- In a fiercely competitive environment, are you really stepping ‘out of the box’ and learning from unusual sources?
- Are leaders in your organization truly building capacity or merely solving problems?
- Practical advice on real issues, from how to deal with consultants to the question of succession, words of caution on strategy traps and M&As,
- And invaluable insights into a whole range of growth-related issues
