The novel The Wind through the Keyhole begins with Roland and his ka-tet that is about to reach the river for their trip to the Dark Tower. There is an old man who drives the ferry takes them across the river, warning them about the coming depression and that they must find some shelter which they can get in a building that was a few miles ahead of the river bank. They were lucky enough to reach the building well within in time, as the storm had come. To keep them distracted and restrict their minds from thinking about the storm Roland starts a story. The story is "Skin-Man" where Roland represents a young and powerful gunslinger. Roland's father sends him and his ka mate Jamie De Curry west of Debaria where they had to capture the Skin-man. He is a man who takes different forms of animals at the night hours and frightens the people in the town and the areas close to it going on to kill people around the town.
Roland and his ka mate board a train that would take them to Debaria but due to some reasons the trains does not go further and then they ride a horse to reach their destination. On their way they come across the town Serenity where Roland's mom stays in women community after he suffered from a mental breakdown following her affair with Martin. This is the place where they come to know of a woman who was attached by a Skin-man and try it find out more about her and the Skin-man. Henry Award.
He has also written two novels with the well known horror novelist Peter Straub: The Talisman and a sequel Black House. He also collaborated with Michael Jackson to create Ghosts. He has done a lot more collaborations and all have been quite successful.
